There is a Grade One race Saturday at Saratoga in the form of the Vanderbilt.
But the Grade Two Jim Dandy is my focus.
They’ll draw later today but the field is expected to include Fotre, Disarm, Hit Show, Angel of Empire. That might end up being it, we’ll see. Thought more would enter. Short on horses, long on talent.
Serious three-year-old race.
On the board in week two! A winner and a couple of runner-ups get us in black for the week, based on a $2 WPS bet on each of our picks. For the meet 9: 1-2-0. Pretty mid to say the least.
Week One 4: 0-0-0 (-$24)
Week Two 5: 1-2-0 (+$2.70)
We almost got all of our personal losses back for the meet in the weekend finale.
This from our Saratoga Stack on Sunday.
“Race 10 is a great scramble, I want to bet the 11.”
#11 Lady Banker went off a juicy 28-1 and almost wired the field, collard late by her stablemate #4 Three Girls. She was coming off a slow start that saw her actually run well, improving big-time moving to turf off two dull dirt efforts. That fact Weaver kept this one in with another in here as well as a good sign.
She ran great. Good day for the Weaver barn. Might we warming up after a second in the CCA Oaks on Saturday.
And a huge return to the track from Nest in the Shuvee. She looked strong in her first effort since last November and earned a 94 Beyer in the process. Next up, the grade one Personal Ensign on Travers Day.

Week Three at the Spa kicks off with another card that includes a compact but talented stakes field in the Honorable Miss, a lot of Linda Rice horses and an inscrutable turf sprint.
Race 2: You have Linda Rice favorite with the #1 Lastchanceatglory. And you have Linda Rice first off the claim in the #7 Flint Ridge. These horses have consistently improved their Beyers for Linda this year in New York and this summer at Saratoga. #4 Silk Trade claimed for 62K last time and now running for 40k.
Race 3: Not a ton of turf pedigree here. In playing Pick 5s the 4,7,9,10 probably cover the race. But watch the board for any wacky money.
Race 4: A chance to see a Breeders’ Cup winner on a Wednesday. Very Saratoga. #1 Echo Zulu is fast and fresh and a likely winner. Would be fine as a single ‘A.’
Race 5: Big drop for Todd Pletcher on the #1 Quality G. Todd 27% first time for a tag on the turf at Saratoga over the last five years. First-time Linda again with the #3 Watasha. Jonathan Thomas first time NA with #8 Moon Watch. Chad Brown class-dropper in the #9 St. Joe Louis. Chad 2 for 13 ALW to claiming on the turf last five years in NY. And what about #10 Billy’s Got Issues who has two okay races on turf. Really tough bunch.
Race 6: Can’t fault those singling Linda here with #1 Ichiban, a horse who has already won here at Saratoga this summer. Trainer of #7 Athena Beach 0 for 3 shipping to Saratoga last five years. Has four or five wins on New York during that time (depending on what stats you look at?) and Trevor McCarthy has ridden two of those. He’s named today.
Race 7: Might be the toughest race of the meet on paper. So let’s make it our Two Minute Pick Presented by NYRA Bets!
Race 8: Linda, again. #2 Amanda’s Folly. #6 B B’s Busted should make one run and get the distance. Exacta player.
Race 9: Could not latch on to anything and would have to use a bunch. 1-3-4-7
Race 10: Been chasing #8 Conquist hoping for a clean trip. Or for the horse to not give up the lead late. It’s cost me money so why bail now? Fits with these and Saez should be on the engine early.
Fun Wednesday card! Good luck if you’re playing! Back tomorrow.
