Good Saturday card. Late Pick 5 ideas and REMINDER!
Just been one of those meets.
Our Two Minute Pick Friday, Appraise, ran a solid race at about 8-1. Had to deal with the breakaway (and surprising) speed of a horse that dusted him last summer at Woodbine - that one seemed to run off early, fading to seventh.
Good job by Flavien Prat not to get in a duel. Hung off, grabbed the lead and looked like a horse that was going to get us back on track.
Until the favored Chad Brown, Carl Spackler, got off the rail and kicked it into gear. Textbook trip from Tyler Gaffalione. Thought that one had a better trip, but we got beat on the square, by the better horse. The trainer seemed to agree that Appraise ran well in defeat.
“He ran unbelievable,” Brown began. “The fact he got attacked early and had to take back after using plenty of energy to make the front, the fact he came back and stormed to the front again. He made multiple moves in the race and ran outstanding. The final margin of victory shouldn’t have been that large, given Appraise’s trip.”
Chad-Chad exacta $19.10 for $1. Didn’t have any of it. Not great!
Didn’t play much else on the day.
Favored Americanrevolution broke poorly in the Evan Shipman and really showed nothing. The horse runs in a peculiar fashion.
Dr. Ardito gets the win there for Chad Brown - one of his four winners on the day. There was also a second Chad-Chad exacta on the day that paid $9.40 for a buck.
Didn’t have that one, either.

It’s impossible to know what they’ll do here. The forecast calls for the heaviest stuff in that 5PM hour - right when they’ll run the Saratoga Special and The Grade 1 Fourstardave Handicap.
We’ll assume that one stays on.
