And then there were six.
Back home after an eventful five days in Saratoga. For sure the most “family,” of my trips upstate.
Sunday was a slow family day early, with a few races late and meeting some friends and saying some goodbyes over at Kings Tavern.
It was a beautiful day weather-wise and a very light Sunday at the track. Post-Sunday Travers is always quiet, this one more than others. And I get it based on the events of Saturday.
As of writing this Tuesday night, racing is on as scheduled for Wednesday and closing week at Saratoga.
After a Wednesday morning storm moves through, it looks sunny and clear for the rest of the meet. That would be a nice reprieve from the daily rain that has fallen in Saratoga this summer.
I have avoided much of racing social media the last few days, but found both the Steve Byk and Chuck Simon podcasts on the tragic events of Saturday and how the racing industry is likely to respond to be well worth my time. And probably yours.
“At The Races with Steve Byk.”
“Going in Circles Podcast with Chuch Simon and Barry Spears.”
Chuck also wrote extensively on the events on the events of Saturday and the state of racing on his Substack early Wednesday morning.
Racing is in a tough spot as it tries to tell the story of how much safer the game is in 2023 vs. 2013, while also dealing with two high-profile meets this year where breakdowns have been major storylines.
Hopefully, everyone gets home safe over the next six days at Saratoga.
No pick on Sunday - I did not want to post a pick when I wasn’t sure if I was going to play at all.
So for Week 7: 4-1-0-0 ($-9.60)
The Meet: 31-6-4-3 (-$55.40)
After our winner on Thursday, I tried to get cute and took three “price,” horses. Joking Way going off at a terrible 3.5-1. A reminder you have to get your price before betting. The horse was terrible and is also back in on the turf on Thursday.
Should have been a winning week after the good start on Wednesday. Especially considering our good opinions in the Travers.
Will probably pick a day to make two picks this week - remember we’re racing Labor Day Monday.
