Impressive effort, Mut, in securing a quote from Cullinane. Obtaining insights from him is no small feat, as he clearly possesses a keen understanding of the city’s dynamics.
A lot to unpack this week. Reading this I realized how much I miss sports radio. I haven't listened in so long now. After you weren't on EEI anymore I took a break, I tried to listen to current stuff and, I just can't, very obvious why the ratings are low. I felt special because I was listening to sports radio since I was a teenager, people thought I was so boring lol. I had great times calling in, everything is a podcast nowadays and with my work schedule anything I would be interested in I can't catch live, which is disappointing. I am also in the minority with never really being a fan of sportshub. Felger put me off years ago over something stupid I can't remember but I digress, you're right, there really is no young and upcoming radio star, and if tiktok is the future, I'm not sure I am okay with that lol.
The Patriots falling is wild, it's hard to believe how and why Bill made so many of these decisions the last couple years, it's brutal to see and the future of the team is so uncertain.
Hoping the niners keep it up, when we are all healthy, very tough for any opponent. The eagles better be ready.
Thanks for posting, will always be salty about how your time ended at WEEI lol
Mutt, can you explain the brian barrett/simmons thing? i don't find him to be interesting at all. Seems like a nice guy but in terms of juice it seems like a guy who is trying to be entertaining about inane stats. maybe that's the ringer MO. I feel like in an alternate universe, they would have gone for someone like you. A combination of content/entertainment/voice. I truly don't get it at all.
with the patriots falling apart, we may see the sports radio have to be creative again. the 20 year run of the Patriots Industrial Complex has allowed for laziness to seep in b/c they had compelling games for so much of the year. Think 1990-92 era when Big Show formed on the back of Rod Rust/Dick Mac/Victor Kiam malaise.
I actually think he's good for NPR. If we're talking entertainment i don't listen and i like Simmons podcast network. Russillo i listen to alot. I think you would be great with Rotillo. The John Dennis horror stories would be worth it alone.
I'd almost argue Adam Jones could be the next "guy." Not because he is talented or anything (because I don't think he is), but because he's essentially a Dollar Store version of Mike Felger -- but much younger. I could see ESPN or someone similar bringing him in just to spit hot takes and fire people up. He's good at that. Is it good radio? No, but that's not what those stations are necessarily looking for. They want hot headlines, sound clips and click bait.
One question for Mut. Did you interview at Sports Hub or no?

Dialogue. City.

I liked working with Barrett at EEI. Very much into the stats/basketball.

Good weekend, Mut.
I guess, Randy. But he won't bring the audience Felger would.
Great job Mike. A lot of interesting info !
Thanks Mr. J! Gulfstream is open!
