The Derby winner is here.
The Preakness winner is here. He was also the second-place finisher in the Derby.
The Derby third-place finisher is here, too.
On paper, this is a tremendous Belmont Stakes, being run for the second straight year at a mile and a quarter at Saratoga Race Course.
What’s less clear is if this will be a good betting race. The top three from the Kentucky Derby look like the right three. I’m guessing they’ll be 9/5, 2-1, and 7/2 or so come post time at 7:04 pm EST on Saturday night.
My friend and Parx announcer Jessica Paquette gave you Sovereignty in the Derby. Veteran handicapper Dick Jerardi and I both liked Journalism as the favorite in the Preakness. At the same time, Jess touted Gosger, who ran second at a nice price—strong results for the MutStack Podcast team through the first two legs of the Triple Crown.
Now, let’s finish strong at Saratoga!
Jess and Dick are back for the MutStack Podcast - Handicapping the 2025 Belmont Stakes. Over 50 minutes, we discuss -

If you’re a racing fan, I hope you’ll share this with other racing fans—it’s a big help.
I’ll have a complete horse-by-horse analysis of the Belmont field in the Friday Four-Pack. And a special Belmont Stakes handicapping newsletter on Saturday morning, complete with a picks grid from this podcast and my selections for the races at Saratoga.
Just subscribe for free to get both in your inbox.
Feedback is welcome and appreciated. A reminder that the Substack App has a great podcast player.
If you can’t be in Saratoga, I hope you’ll join us at Mohegan Sun for their annual Belmont Stakes Watch Party. Mohegan Sun will have a BIG presence at Saratoga this summer, and is sponsoring the best betting race of the weekend in The Woody Stephens (Race 11 on Saturday). Myself and ‘The Big A,” Anthony Stabile, will be talking about the races and hopefully handing out winners all afternoon. Come by and say hello.
There is wet weather in the forecast for Saturday in Saratoga, so if the track comes up sloppy, we’ll note any adjustments in the handicapping here on Saturday.
Hopefully, it’s not an issue, because we have the Top 3 Kentucky Derby finishers squaring off and a day full of interesting betting races.
Thanks for listening, and good luck this weekend! Safe trips for all.
